Pre-Licensed Clinician

At Kids at Heart – Metrowest, our Pre-Licensed clinicians are therapists who have completed their Master’s program and have a graduate degree in either social work or mental health counseling. Both the social work board and the mental health counseling board in MA require Master’s level clinicians to earn a specific amount of clinical hours prior to applying for their independent licensure. These clinicians are under the supervision of one of our independently licensed providers. Our supervisors are experienced clinicians who are credentialed with in-network insurance panels. They meet with our Pre-Licensed Clinician weekly to review cases. Pre-licensed clinicians are selected based on their passion for and years of experience working with children and their specialized training in working with a wide range of childhood concerns, including PLAY THERAPY consultation and EMD consultation

Many of our Pre-Licensed Clinicians are on the path to becoming a fully licensed mental health counselor for children, with a focus on providing compassionate, developmentally appropriate support to young clients and their families. Through direct client work and structured clinical training, they gain valuable experience addressing emotional, behavioral, and psychological concerns in children.

Each clinician receives regular oversight from a licensed therapist supervisor, who brings years of expertise in child and adolescent mental health care. These supervisors provide essential guidance through weekly case consultations, ensuring ethical practice, clinical growth, and high-quality therapeutic outcomes. This supervision model allows our team to maintain the highest standards of care while nurturing the next generation of skilled child therapists.
