Sibling arguments and difficult interactions can occur, regardless of the age difference or family dynamics. Here are some ideas for parents to consider when thinking about family bonds and relationships.

Encourage connection

  1. Praise positive interactions. Just as you might provide positive reinforcement for an individual child’s behavior, you can look for opportunities to praise siblings together.
  2. Promote shared experiences.
  3. Reward teamwork.

Strengthen Family Relationships

  1. Work on good communication skills. Focus on listening and understanding what your family member is trying to say.
  2. Establish traditions, values, and goals together.
  3. Try new things together.
  4. Connect with distant family members.
  5. Stay active.
  6. Laugh together.
